As part of the Helideck Inspection process
(CAP 437) the
Helideck Certification Agency use
the Friction Tester of choice, the EXL Deck Tester as an important safety tool for
Offshore Helideck Friction Testing....

The EXL is unique in that it has been specially prepared to meet and
exceed the requirements for Helideck use, accepted and used by the
HCA for all inspections, the EXL is supplied with
hard carry case, detailed Helideck Testing Protocol and a
Calibration Certificate (for use in all Helideck Safety Reports).
Certified to operate Offshore BDl Solutions brings this valuable
Friction Testing service directly to operators and
owners of Helidecks around the world.
Attention has been given when preparing the EXL to
the conditions the machine will be operated under, so the Operator has
everything to make sure the EXL gives consistent and accurate service
during the interim period, before the annual Calibration Testing and
Certification, to maintain the required standards set by the
HCA and CAA based on CAP 437.

The Airport Operator BAA uses the EXL
Slip Tester
to meet their Duty of Care as owners and operators under the
Occupier Liability Act. Their own Floor Standard requires the EXL to be
used to monitor floors, improving safety, while saving the business money.
Monitoring is deemed to be best practice in
the industry and recognised as such by the Health and Safety Executive.

Training and Certification of operators in the
use of the EXL, something supported by the
HCA
for every environment, is all part of the
continued support we provide, along with
advice on the selection of
specific floor areas to be monitored and on how to collate the gathered
information. We will be pleased to put together a consultation fee
based on your particular requirements.
Insist on BDl Certified Staff, if
you are in any doubt, email us to make sure the company / operator concerned
is part of our training programme.
No
substitute for training
'That’s despite what some companies
would have you believe, all too often we see ‘side stepping’ the training to
save cost but the saving is not real, instead all they are doing is diluting
the credibility of the results they are going to produce, which impact on
the customer and compromises safety.
We have worked tirelessly to
establish a methodology and credibility wrapped up in ‘The Helideck Testing
Protocol’ it concerns us that others adopt Our testing protocol without
permission or any training in its use, but use the quality of this protocol to give
their results credibility.
Not for much longer as we feel
this has a negative affect on the testing programme as a whole and can call
into question the validity of any results. Companies who have adopted the
training schedule, which means that they have done the initial training,
signed up for the refresher training and are meeting the annual calibration
requirements, should have prominence so you can have confidence in the
results they produce'.
To buy an EXL must mean you buy into a program
of continued excellence and training, producing quality in testing standards
with validity in results.

a word of warning.............don't
be persuaded to use 'Continuous Measuring Devices' like the Tortus or
dragsled, as in the words of the HSE 'they
could lead to unsuitable floors
being classified as acceptable' because 'they produce misleading results in
wet or contaminated conditions', but that is what we are concerned with wet
or contaminated surfaces Not clean dry
surfaces!.
